Mosquito nets protect the interiors from the invasion of small insects, such as flies or mosquitoes. Mesh meshes must be very fine, so that insects cannot squeeze through them. Mosquito nets made of steel wire, enamelled or galvanized are no longer used due to the tendency to rust. They were replaced by nets made of materials more resistant to moisture, such as bronze, copper, Plastic, aluminium or aluminium blinds, Brass, fiberglass and plastic. Aluminum meshes are often found, additionally covered with a layer of enamel, increasing their strength and durability.
Maintenance of meshes and frames
Modern mosquito nets can serve for years, provided that they are properly cared for. Each mesh attracts dust, so it should be cleaned regularly. Wire mesh often corrodes, especially in coastal areas, where salt particles float in the air. Sooner or later, small holes and tears will appear on the grid; they can be patched, without mentioning the whole. You must remember to patch the cavities immediately after their formation, otherwise, the hole will grow in size and after some time you will have a much more serious repair, including replacement of the entire mesh. If this happens, do not throw away the old mesh, as it can be useful as a patch material for future repairs. Store it in a dry place, so that it does not rust.
Wooden frames should be protected with a layer of paint. This will prevent moisture absorption, leading to swelling, deformation and rotting of wood, as well as improve the appearance of the whole. Aluminum frames should be covered with a layer of wax from time to time, protection against oxidation.
